Rahu Ashtothara Stotram

 

                     श्रीराहु अष्टोत्तरशतनामस्तोत्रम्

**श‍ृणु नामानि राहोश्च सैंहिकेयो विधुन्तुदः । सुरशत्रुस्तमश्चैव फणी गार्ग्यायणस्तथा ॥ १॥**

- Listen to the names of Rahu, the son of Simhika, the disturber of the moon, enemy of the gods, embodiment of darkness, a serpent, descendant of Gargya.

**सुरागुर्नीलजीमूतसङ्काशश्च चतुर्भुजः । खड्गखेटकधारी च वरदायकहस्तकः ॥ २॥**

- The preceptor of the gods, dark as a rain cloud, four-armed, bearer of sword and shield, and one who grants boons.

**शूलायुधो मेघवर्णः कृष्णध्वजपताकावान् । दक्षिणाशामुखरतः तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रधराय च ॥ ३॥**

- Wielding a trident, colored like a cloud, having a flag with Krishna's emblem, delighting in the south, bearer of sharp fangs.

**शूर्पाकारासनस्थश्च गोमेदाभरणप्रियः । माषप्रियः कश्यपर्षिनन्दनो भुजगेश्वरः ॥ ४॥**

- Seated in a winnowing basket, fond of Hessonite ornaments, lover of black gram, son of sage Kashyapa, lord of serpents.

**उल्कापातयिताशुली निधिपः कृष्णसर्पराट् । उल्कापातजनिः शूली विषज्वलावृतास्योऽर्धशरीरो जाद्यसम्प्रदः ॥ ५॥**

- Causing meteor falls, holding a spear, protector of treasures, king of black serpents, born from a meteor, envenomed, half-bodied, giver of lethargy.

**रवीन्दुभीकरश्छायास्वरूपी कठिनाङ्गकः । द्विषच्चक्रच्छेदकोऽथ करालास्यो भयङ्करः ॥ ६॥**

- Terrifies the sun and moon, embodiment of a shadow, hard-bodied, cutter of the circle of stars, fierce-faced, terrifying.

**क्रूरकर्मा तमोरूपः श्यामात्मा नीललोहितः । किरीटी नीलवसनः शनिसामन्तवर्त्मगः ॥ ७॥**

- Cruel in actions, an embodiment of darkness, dark-spirited, blue and red complexioned, wearing a crown, dressed in blue, moving in the path like Saturn.

**चाण्डालवर्णोऽथाश्व्यर्क्षभवो मेषभवस्तथा । शनिवत्फलदः शूरोऽपसव्यगतिरेव च ॥ ८॥**

- Complexioned like an outcaste, born under Ashwini and Mesh constellations, giving results like Saturn, valiant, moving in a retrograde motion.

**उपरागकरस्सूर्यहिमांषुच्छविहारकः । उपरागकरस्सोम सूर्यच्छवि विमर्दकः ॥ ९॥**

- Causing eclipses of the sun and moon, delighting in their shadows.

**कबन्धमात्रदेहश्च यातुधानकुलोद्भवः । गोविन्दवरपात्रं च देवजातिप्रविष्टकः ॥ १०॥**

- Having a headless body, born of the demon race, recipient of Govinda's boon, entered among the gods.

**क्रूरो घोरः शनेर्मित्रं शुक्रमित्रमगोचरः । मानेगङ्गास्नानदाता स्वगृहे प्रबलाढ्यकः ॥ ११॥**

- Cruel, terrible, friend of Saturn and Venus, beyond comprehension, giver of the merit of bathing in the Ganges, very strong in his own house.

**सद्गृहेऽन्यबलधृच्चतुर्थे मातृनाशकः । चन्द्रयुक्ते तु चण्डालजन्मसूचक एव तु ॥ १२॥**

- Strong in a good house, but destructive in the fourth house, causing the loss of mother, indicating the birth of outcastes when conjoined with the moon.

**जन्मसिंहे राज्यदाता महाकायस्तथैव च । जन्मकर्ता विधुरिपु मत्तकोज्ञानदश्च सः ॥ १३॥**

- When born in Leo, giver of kingdom, large-bodied, creator of birth, enemy of the moon, inflicting madness.

**जन्मकन्याराज्यदाता जन्महानिद एव च । नवमे पितृहन्ता च पञ्चमे शोकदायकः ॥ १४॥**

- If born in Virgo, grants kingdom, causes loss at birth, destroyer of father in the ninth house, causes sorrow in the fifth house.

**द्यूने कळत्रहन्ता च सप्तमे कलहप्रदः । षष्ठे तु वित्तदाता च चतुर्थे वैरदायकः ॥ १५॥**

- Causes downfall of spouse, instigator of disputes in the seventh house, giver of wealth in the sixth, and enmity in the fourth house.

नवमे पापदाता च दशमे शोकदायकः । आदौ यशःप्रदाता च अन्ते वैरप्रदायकः ॥ १६॥

• In the ninth house, giver of sins, and in the tenth, bringer of sorrow. At the beginning, grants fame, but at the end, causes enmity.

कालात्मा गोचराचारो धने चास्य ककुत्प्रदः । पञ्चमे धिषणाश‍ृङ्गदः स्वर्भानुर्बली तथा ॥ १७॥

• Embodiment of time, wandering in transit, in the second house bestows wealth. In the fifth, gives authority, Rahu is powerful.

महासौख्यप्रदायी च चन्द्रवैरी च शाश्वतः । सुरशत्रुः पापग्रहः शाम्भवः पूज्यकस्तथा ॥ १८॥

• Great giver of comfort, eternal enemy of the Moon. Enemy of gods, malefic planet, related to Shiva, worthy of worship.

पाटीरपूरणश्चाथ पैठीनसकुलोद्भवः । दीर्घकृष्णोतनुर्विष्णुनेत्रारिर्देवदानवौ ॥ १९॥

• Fulfiller of desires, born in the Paithinas family. Long, dark-bodied, enemy of Vishnu’s eye, straddling both gods and demons.

भक्तरक्षो राहुमूर्तिः सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदः । एतद्राहुग्रहस्योक्तं नाम्नामष्टोत्तरं शतम् ॥ २०॥

• Protector of devotees, Rahu’s form, grantor of all desired fruits. This is the utterance of Rahu’s one hundred and eight names.

श्रद्धया यो जपेन्नित्यं मुच्यते सर्व सङ्कटात् । सर्वसम्पत्करस्तस्य राहुरिष्टप्रदायकः ॥ २१॥

• One who recites these names daily with devotion is freed from all troubles. Rahu, the giver of all prosperity, fulfills wishes.
