           श्रीसूर्याष्टोत्तरशतनामस्तोत्रम्


अरुणाय शरण्याय करुणारससिन्धवे । असमानबलायाऽर्तरक्षकाय नमो नमः ॥ १॥

1. अरुणाय (Arunaya):

Arunaya

To Aruna, the charioteer of the Sun.

2. शरण्याय (Sharanyaya):

Sharanyaya

The refuge.

3. करुणारससिन्धवे (Karunarasa-sindhve):

Karuna-rasa-sindhve

The ocean of compassion.

4. असमानबलाय (Asamanabalaya):

Asamana-balaya

Unparalleled in strength.

5. आर्तरक्षकाय (Artarakshakaya):

Arta-rakshakaya

The protector of the distressed.

   - *Translation:* Salutations to Aruna (the charioteer of Sun), the refuge, the ocean of compassion, unparalleled in strength, the protector of the distressed.


आदित्यायाऽदिभूताय अखिलागमवेदिने । अच्युतायाऽखिलज्ञाय अनन्ताय नमो नमः ॥ २॥


6. आदित्याय (Adityaya):

Adityaya

To Aditya, the Sun.

7. अदिभूताय (Adibhutaya):

Adi-bhutaya

The primordial being.

8. अखिलागमवेदिने (Akhilagamavedine):

Akhila-agama-vedine

Knower of all scriptures.

9. अच्युताय (Achyutaya):

Achyutaya

Infallible.

10. अखिलज्ञाय (Akhilajnaya):

Akhila-jnaya

Omniscient.

11. अनन्ताय (Anantaya):

Anantaya

Infinite.

   - *Translation:* Salutations to Aditya (the Sun), the primordial being, knower of all scriptures, infallible, omniscient, and infinite.


इनाय विश्वरूपाय इज्यायैन्द्राय भानवे । इन्दिरामन्दिराप्ताय वन्दनीयाय ते नमः ॥ ३॥


12. इनाय (Inaya):

Inaya

To the one worthy of worship.

13. विश्वरूपाय (Vishwarupaya):

Vishwa-rupaya

Who has a universal form.

14. इज्याय (Ijyaya):

Ijyaya

Who is honored and respected.

15. इन्द्राय (Indraya):

Indraya

The radiant one.

16. इन्दिरामन्दिराप्ताय (Indiramandiraptaya):

Indira-mandira-aptaya

The lord of Indira (goddess of wealth and prosperity).

17. वन्दनीयाय (Vandanīyāya):

Vandanīyaya

Worthy of worship.

   - *Translation:* Salutations to the one worthy of worship, who has a universal form, who is honored and respected, the radiant one, and the lord of Indira (goddess of wealth and prosperity).


ईशाय सुप्रसन्नाय सुशीलाय सुवर्चसे । वसुप्रदाय वसवे वासुदेवाय ते नमः ॥ ४॥

18. ईशाय (Ishaya):

Ishaya

To the supreme lord.

19. सुप्रसन्नाय (Suprasannaya):

Suprasannaya

Always gracious.

20. सुशीलाय (Sushilaya):

Sushilaya

Of good character.

21. सुवर्चसे (Suvarchase):

Suvarchase

Luminous.

22. वसुप्रदाय (Vasupradaya):

Vasupradaya

Giver of wealth.

23. वसवे (Vasave):

Vasave

The controller.

24. वासुदेवाय (Vasudevaya):

Vasudevaya

An incarnation of Vasudeva (Lord Krishna).


   - *Translation:* Salutations to the supreme lord, who is always gracious, of good character, luminous, giver of wealth, the controller, and an incarnation of Vasudeva (another name for Lord Krishna).


उज्ज्वलायोग्ररूपाय ऊर्ध्वगाय विवस्वते । उद्यत्किरणजालाय हृषीकेशाय ते नमः ॥ ५॥

25. उज्ज्वलाय (Ujjvalaya):

Ujjvalaya

The brilliant one.

26. उग्ररूपाय (Ugrarupaya):

Ugra-rupaya

With a fierce form.

27. ऊर्ध्वगाय (Urdhvagaya):

Urdhvagaya

Rising upwards.

28. विवस्वते (Vivasvate):

Vivasvate

The radiant Vivasvat.

29. उद्यत्किरणजालाय (Udyatkiranajalaya):

Udyat-kirana-jalaya

Adorned with a network of rays.

30. हृषीकेशाय (Hrishikeshaya):

Hrishikeshaya

The lord of the senses.

   - *Translation:* Salutations to the brilliant one with a fierce form, rising upwards, the radiant Vivisvat, adorned with a network of rays, the lord of the senses.


 ऊर्जस्वलाय वीराय निर्जराय जयाय च । ऊरुद्वयाभावरूपयुक्तसारथये नमः ॥ ६॥

31. ऊर्जस्वलाय (Urjasvalaya):

Urjasvalaya

Full of vitality and courage.

32. वीराय (Viraya):

Viraya

Free from decay.

33. निर्जराय (Nirjaraya):

Nirjaraya

Victorious.

34. जयाय (Jayaya):

Jayaya

Possessing a mighty chariot.

35. ऊरुद्वयाभावरूपयुक्तसारथये (Urudvayabhavarupayuktasarathaye):

Uru-dvaya-bhava-rupa-yukta-sarathaye

Perfectly formed.

   - *Translation:* Salutations to the one full of vitality and courage, free from decay, victorious, possessing a mighty chariot, and perfectly formed.


ऋषिवन्द्याय रुग्घन्त्रे ऋक्षचक्रचराय च । ऋजुस्वभावचित्ताय नित्यस्तुत्याय ते नमः ॥ ७॥

36. ऋषिवन्द्याय (Rishivandyaya):

Rishi-vandyaya

Revered by sages.

37. रुग्घन्त्रे (Rugghanatre):

Rug-ghantre

The destroyer of diseases.

38. ऋक्षचक्रचराय (Rikshachakracharaya):

Riksha-chakra-charaya

Who travels through the zodiac.

39. ऋजुस्वभावचित्ताय (Rjusvabhavachittaya):

Rju-svabhava-chittaya

Straightforward in nature.

40. नित्यस्तुत्याय (Nityastutyaya):

Nitya-stutyaya

Always worthy of praise 


ऋकारमातृकावर्णरूपायोज्ज्वलतेजसे।

ऋक्षाधिनाथमित्राय पुष्कराक्षाय ते नमः॥ ८॥

41. ऋकारमातृकावर्णरूपाय (Rikaramatrikavarnarupaya):

Ri-kara-matrika-varna-rupaya

The essence of the syllable ‘Ri’.

42. उज्ज्वलतेजसे (Ujjvalatejase):

Ujjvala-tejase

Shines brightly.

43. ऋक्षाधिनाथ (Rikshadhinatha):

Riksha-adhinatha

The lord of stars.

44. मित्राय (Mitraya):

Mitraya

The friend.

45. पुष्कराक्षाय (Pushkarakshaya):

Pushkara-akshaya

The one with lotus-like eyes  


   - *Translation:* Salutations to the one who shines brightly, the essence of the syllable 'Ri', the lord of stars, the friend, and the one with lotus-like eyes.


लुप्तदन्ताय शान्ताय कान्तिदाय घनाय च । कनत्कनकभूषाय खद्योताय ते नमः ॥ ९॥


46. लुप्तदन्ताय (Luptadantaya):

Lupta-dantaya

Tranquil.

47. शान्ताय (Shantaya):

Shantaya

Radiant.

48. कान्तिदाय (Kantidaya):

Kantidaya

Dense (in brilliance).

49. घनाय (Ghanaya):

Ghanaya

Adorned with glittering gold.

50. कनत्कनकभूषाय (Kanatkanakabhooshaya):

Kanat-kanaka-bhooshaya

Shining like a firefly


Translation: Salutations to the one who is tranquil, radiant, dense (in brilliance), adorned with glittering gold, and shining like a firefly.


लूनिताखिलदैत्याय सत्यानन्दस्वरूपिणे । अपवर्गप्रदायाऽर्तशरण्याय नमो नमः ॥ १०॥

51. लूनिताखिलदैत्याय (Lunitakhiladaityaya):

Lunita-akhila-daityaya

The destroyer of all demons.

52. सत्यानन्दस्वरूपिणे (Satyanandaswaroopine):

Satya-ananda-swaroopine

The embodiment of eternal bliss.

53. अपवर्गप्रदाय (Apavargapradaya):

Apavarga-pradaya

The granter of liberation.

54. अर्तशरण्याय (Artasharanyaya):

Arta-sharanyaya

The refuge for the distressed.

- *Translation:* Salutations to the destroyer of all demons, the embodiment of eternal bliss, the granter of liberation, and the refuge for the distressed.


एकाकिने भगवते सृष्टिस्थित्यन्तकारिणे । गुणात्मने घृणिभृते बृहते ब्रह्मणे नमः ॥ ११॥

55. एकाकिने (Ekakine):

Ekakine

Solitary.

56. भगवते (Bhagavate):

Bhagavate

The supreme deity.

57. सृष्टिस्थित्यन्तकारिणे (Srishtisthityantakarine):

Srishti-sthiti-antakarine

Responsible for creation, preservation, and destruction.

58. गुणात्मने (Gunatmane):

Guna-atmane

The embodiment of qualities.

59. घृणिभृते (Ghrnibhrte):

Ghrni-bhrte

Compassionate.

60. बृहते (Brihate):

Brihate

Immense.

61. ब्रह्मणे (Brahmane):

Brahmane

The ultimate reality (Brahman).

- *Translation:* Salutations to the supreme deity, solitary, responsible for creation, preservation, and destruction, the embodiment of qualities, compassionate, immense, and the ultimate reality (Brahman).


ऐश्वर्यदाय शर्वाय हरिदश्वाय शौरये । दशदिक्सम्प्रकाशाय भक्तवश्याय ते नमः ॥ १२॥

62. ऐश्वर्यदाय (Aishwaryadaya):

Aishwarya-daya

The giver of sovereignty.

63. शर्वाय (Sharvaya):

Sharvaya

The auspicious one.

64. हरिदश्वाय (Haridashvaya): 

Harid-ashvaya

The one with green horses.

65. शौरये (Shouraye):

Shouraye

The hero.

66. दशदिक्सम्प्रकाशाय (Dashadiksampprakashaya):

Dasha-dik-samprakashaya

Illuminating all ten directions.

67. भक्तवश्याय (Bhaktavashyaya):

Bhakta-vashyaya

Approachable to devotees.

  - *Translation:* Salutations to the giver of sovereignty, the auspicious one, the one with green horses, the hero, illuminating all ten directions, and the one who is approachable to devotees.


ओजस्कराय जयिने जगदानन्दहेतवे । जन्ममृत्युजराव्याधिवर्जिताय नमो नमः ॥ १३॥

68. ओजस्कराय (Ojaskaraya):

Ojaskaraya

The source of strength.

69. जयिने (Jayine):

Jayine

The victor.

70. जगदानन्दहेतवे (Jagadanandahetave):

Jagad-ananda-hetave

The cause of joy in the world.

71. जन्ममृत्युजराव्याधिवर्जिताय (Janmamrityujaravyadhi-varjitaya):

Janma-mrityu-jara-vyadhi-varjitaya

Beyond birth, death, aging, and disease.

 - *Translation:* Salutations to the source of strength, the victor, the cause of joy in the world, and the one who is beyond birth, death, aging, and disease.


ओउन्नत्यपदसञ्चाररथस्थायात्मरूपिने । कमनीयकरायाऽब्जवल्लभाय नमो नमः ॥ १४॥

72. ओउन्नत्यपदसञ्चाररथस्थाय (Ounnatya-padasanchaar-rathasthaya):

Ounnatya-pada-sanchaar-rathasthaya

Who travels in a high position.

73. आत्मरूपिने (Atmaroopine):

Atma-roopine

The essence of ‘Oum’.

74. कमनीयकराय (Kamaniyakaraya):

Kamaniya-karaya

Attractive in form.

75. अब्जवल्लभाय (Abjavallabhaya):

Abja-vallabhaya

Beloved of the lotus.

    - *Translation:* Salutations to the one who travels in a high position, the essence of 'Oum', the one in the chariot, attractive in form, and beloved of the lotus.


अन्तर्बहिःप्रकाशाय अचिन्त्यायाऽत्मरूपिणे । अच्युताय सुरेषाय परस्मैज्योतिषे नमः ॥ १५॥

76. अन्तर्बहिःप्रकाशाय (Antarbahihprakashaya):

Antar-bahih-prakashaya

Illuminates both internally and externally.

77. अचिन्त्याय (Achintyaya):

Achintyaya

Inconceivable.

78. अत्मरूपिणे (Atmaroopine):

Atma-roopine

The embodiment of the self.

79. अच्युताय (Achyutaya):

Achyutaya

Infallible.

80. सुरेषाय (Sureshaya):

Sureshaya

The lord of gods.

81. परस्मैज्योतिषे (Parasmaijyotishe):

Parasmai-jyotishe

The supreme light.

  - *Translation:* Salutations to the one who illuminates both internally and externally, inconceivable, the embodiment of the self, infallible, the lord of gods, and the supreme light.


अहस्कराय रवये हरये परमात्मने । तरुणाय वरेण्याय ग्रहाणाम्पतये नमः ॥ १६॥

82. अहस्कराय (Ahaskaraya):

Ahas-karaya

The maker of the day.

83. रवये (Ravaye):

Ravaye

The sun.

84. हरये (Haraye):

Haraye

The remover (of darkness).

85. परमात्मने (Paramatmane):

Paramatmane

The supreme soul.

86. तरुणाय (Tarunaya):

Tarunaya

The youthful.

87. वरेण्याय (Varenyaya):

Varenyaya

The most excellent.

88. ग्रहाणाम्पतये (Grahanampataye):

Grahanam-pataye

The lord of all planets

*Translation:* Salutations to the maker of the day, the sun, the remover (of darkness), the supreme soul, the youthful, the most excellent, and the lord of all planets.


ॐ नमो भास्करायाऽदिमध्यान्तरहिताय च । सौख्यप्रदाय सकलजगताम्पतये नमः ॥ १७॥

89. ॐ नमो भास्कराय (Om Namo Bhaskaraya):

Om Namo Bhaskaraya

Om, salutations to Bhaskara.

90. अदिमध्यान्तरहिताय (Adimadhyantarahitaya):

Adi-madhya-antarahitaya

Without beginning, middle, or end.

91. सौख्यप्रदाय (Saukhyapradaya):

Saukhya-pradaya

The giver of comfort.

92. सकलजगताम्पतये (Sakalajagatampataye):

Sakala-jagatam-pataye

The lord of the entire world.

    - *Translation:* Om, salutations to Bhaskara, without beginning, middle, or end, the giver of comfort, the lord of the entire world.


नमः सूर्याय कवये नमो नारायणाय च । नमो नमः परेशाय तेजोरूपाय ते नमः ॥ १८॥

93. नमः सूर्याय (Namah Suryaya):

Namah Suryaya

Salutations to Surya.

94. कवये (Kavaye):

Kavaye

The poet.

95. नमो नारायणाय (Namo Narayanaya):

Namo Narayanaya

Salutations to Narayana (Lord Vishnu).

96. परेशाय (Pareshaya):

Pareshaya

The supreme lord.

97. तेजोरूपाय (Tejorupaya):

Tejo-rupaya

The embodiment of radiance.

    - *Translation:* Salutations to Surya, the poet, salutations to Narayana (Lord Vishnu), salutations to the supreme lord, the embodiment of radiance.


ॐ श्रीं हिरण्यगर्भाय ॐ ह्रीं सम्पत्कराय च । ॐ ऐं इष्टार्थदायाऽनुप्रसन्नाय नमो नमः ॥ १९॥

98. ॐ श्रीं हिरण्यगर्भाय (Om Shrim Hiranyagarbhaya):

Om Shrim Hiranya-garbhaya

To Hiranyagarbha (the golden womb or the cosmic egg).

99. ॐ ह्रीं सम्पत्कराय (Om Hreem Sampatkaraya):

Om Hreem Sampatkaraya

The giver of wealth.

100. ॐ ऐं इष्टार्थदाय (Om Aim Ishtartha Daya):

Om Aim Ishta-artha Daya

The one who grants desired objects.

101. अनुप्रसन्नाय (Anuprasannaya):

Anuprasannaya

Always gracious.

   - *Translation:* Om, salutations to Hiranyagarbha (the golden womb or the cosmic egg), Om, salutations to the giver of wealth, Om, salutations to the one who grants desired objects and is always gracious.


श्रीमते श्रेयसे भक्तकोटिसौख्यप्रदायिने । निखिलागमवेद्याय नित्यानन्दाय ते नमः ॥ २०॥

    - *Translation:* Salutations to the glorious and auspicious one, who bestows happiness upon millions of devotees, known through all the scriptures, and the embodiment of eternal bliss.




यो मानवः सन्ततमर्कमर्चयन्पठेत्प्रभाते विमलेन चेतसा । इमान् नामानि च तस्य पुण्यमायुर्धनं धान्यमुपैत्ति नित्यम्

    - *Translation:* The person who, with a pure heart, constantly worships the Sun and recites these names, will always gain virtue, longevity, wealth, and grain.


इमं स्तवं देववरस्य कीर्तयेच्छ्रुणोति योऽयं सुमनाः समाहितः । स मुच्यते शोकदवाग्निसागराल्लभेत सर्वं मनसो यथेप्सितम् ॥

    - *Translation:* Whoever sings this hymn of the supreme deity with a calm and concentrated mind, will be liberated from the ocean of sorrow and will attain everything desired by the mind.
